How to find the best Birds & Eggs Producers

This page is intended to help new-comers and long-time breeders alike find and contact producers of rare breed eggs.

We have dealt with all the breeders on this page in some capacity and, in our experience, found them to be very helpful and supportive as well as trustworthy.

However, once you choose to contact any of the breeders listed below please understand that Malvern Poultry have no influence or part in your dealings.

Similarly, we have no input on prices asked by these breeders and take no commission from them at all.

However, we do welcome any comments you may have!

When you purchase eggs from a producer it is important that you have prepared in advance.

As part of your preparation we strongly recommend that you read as much as you can. The local libraries stock a good range of books on hatching and raising poultry and are an ideal place to start your research.

Local poultry clubs are another great source of advice and friendship.

Eventually the time will come when you have to stop talking and start doing! This is when the friends you have made come in as a safety net to help you through your first time - although you will find that it is more putting your mind at rest than anything.

The eggs will arrive (hopefully undamaged depending on how well the couriers have looked after them!) and should then be left to stand in a cool place for 24 hours before moving into the incubator.

Chicken eggs can usually be kept for at least seven to fourteen days without any adverse effect on their hatch rate.

They can get cold during this period - indeed it is not uncommon for breeders to make up a clutch with eggs from the fridge! However, a cool environment is recommended rather than chilled.

Your incubator should have automatic turning and thermostatic temperature control. All that leaves for you is to keep the water reservoir topped up and count the days down to hatching!

As your first incubator full of chicks start to grow you will wonder what you were so worried about!

Have fun!
