Brinsea Mini ADVANCE Incubator

We admit it! We made a mistake!

When Brinsea brought out the Mini incubator range we were sceptical. The plastic dome looked thin and flimsy from the photo and the size seemed impractical from our ‘lifestlye block ’ point of view. It seemed gimmicky and we were not at all sure it was going to offer our customers the quality you have become accustomed to, despite Brinsea’s apparent excitement over it.

Besides, we liked the Octagon 10 and this new model was to blame for the old favourite going out of production.

We delayed stocking them and did a bit of research first. As a result we enjoyed this fantastic little unit for a few months before giving you the opportunity. We can only apologise!

The quality is what, in hindsight, we would have expected - not thin and flimsy at all!

This is, believe it or not, a forced air incubator with a single computer grade fan driving the warm air around the incubator and eliminating cold spots.

The menu driven control panel allows digital temperature control, turning control (allowing adjustment to the size of eggs you wish to incubate so they get turned the right amount and at intervals chosen by the operator), a countdown to hatch date (with the option of turning off the turning mechanism automatically a couple of days before hatching), high and low temperature alarms...

Need we go on?

The size has even proved very useful as it is great for those few eggs of a particular breed, which may need particular conditions, rather than having to load up a huge incubator or waste space.

If smaller eggs are to be incubated, such as quail or pheasants, then a special turning disc can be purchased to increase the capacity to twelve eggs.

But to just use it on the block would be to miss a great opportunity. This is a very easy incubator to use with fantastic visibility when it comes to what is going on inside. As an educational tool it is truly excellent, perhaps the best we have come across, and we would strongly recommend it for both home and school/pre-school use in this manner.

And with a power usage of only 12 watts average (max 18 watts) it ’s like running an energy-saving light bulb!

Small but perfectly formed. We have thoroughly enjoyed test driving this one and it will remain in regular usage. Maybe we won ’t miss the Octagon 10 as much as we feared!
